George Sykes attended Darien High School in Darien, Connecticut and graduated in 1987. From there he studied at John Hopkins University and moved to NYC shortly after. His first New York job was at Donaldson, Lufkin, and Jenrette. Sykes planned on taking some time off from working and go to business school. Those plans did not go through and he ended up staying on Wall Street and working for DLJ for five years. George Sykes and a few of his coworkers decided to start their own company in 1995 called Links Securities. In 2001 there was a merger and Links Securities became a part of Guggenheim Partners in Manhattan.
